STREAM: Kendrick Lamar – “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe (Feat. Lady Gaga)”

There was word a while back that rising star Kendrick Lamar got a shot at working with Lady Gaga. The resulting collaboration was supposed to grace our ears with the release of Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City. It didn’t.

Apparently, Lady Gaga didn’t dig some of the changes made with the demo of  ”Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe,” so they scrapped it. This anticipated track was gone without hope of hearing it again. That was until Gaga’s big heart opened up and released the song to her fans this evening.

Take a listen to Gaga on the chorus of “Bitch Don’t …

In The Process: Late Night Habit – Nostalgia, Part II

One of the most interesting things about about music is the actual making of the music. The give and take, the writing, the scrapping, the re-writing, and the recordings that precede the final recording. This process is normally quite personal to artist(s) themselves, but we’re interested. So, we’ve asked some artists to include us in the process in hopes that they’d share. The first group to participate is Pop Rock two-piece, Late Night Habit.

STREAM: Frank Ocean – Scared of Beautiful (Demo)

When not touring the world, appearing on national tv, recording his own material, or appearing on songs with his Odd Future pals, Frank Ocean writes for other recording artists.

This is, in fact, how the singer/songwriter got his start, writing songs for pop music giants Justin Bieber and Beyoncé. Despite his recent solo success, he still continues to write for other artists, the most recent being Brandy.

For Brandy, Frank wrote a somber song called “Scared of Beautiful.” We have two versions of the songs for you. Frank’s demo and Brandy’s album version (appearing on Two Eleven

Vanna Demoing New Material, Plan To Announce Studio Time In The Near Future

Boston post-hardcore act Vanna have been relatively quiet since leaving their highly praised stint on Van’s Warped Tour, and this afternoon we learned why. According to a tweet sent from the band’s official Twitter, Vanna have already demoed four new songs and are planning to reveal studio plans in the near future. This will mark the group’s first recording effort since parting ways with longtime cleans vocalist Evan Pharmekis earlier this year, as well as the first time back in the booth since recording And They Came Baring Bones in early 2011.

The two recent candidates are Mike Caswell, lead vocalist for K Será and The March Ahead, and Donovan Melero of Hail the Sun. Two demos from each vocalist have surfaced on line. The music is by Tides of Man, but the vocals and lyrics are by Caswell or Melero. Give them a listen after …
