MUSIC VIDEO: Deftones – “Swerve City”

Alt-metal band Deftones are back with their first music video off of Koi No Yakan, “Swerve City.” The video, featured on Noisey, takes place out in the desert with shots of a girl riding a horse.

Deftones are scheduled to go out on an international tour starting May 11. The band has been relatively silent to the public eye since the passing of founding member Chi Cheng on April 13, 2013. The video can be seen after the jump.

Deftones Cover Kris Kross’ “Jump” In St. Louis

Deftones are no strangers to tragedy. Earlier this month the band said goodbye to founding bassist, Chi Cheng, at age 42 after a car accident in November 2008 left him paralyzed and partially conscious. With his loss still fresh in the mind of the band and music fans around the world, news that Kris Kross member, Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly, passed last night has touched on a wound that had only just begun to heal.

In an attempt to pay tribute to Kelly’s passing, and in a way pay additional tribute to their own fallen comrade, the members of …

RUMOR OF THE DAY: Avenged Sevenfold, Deftones, and Ghost Planning Fall Tour

The rumor mill is alive and well this morning with false promises of tours, collaborations, release dates, and breakups that 97% of the time turn out to be complete nonsense. There is one story that caught our collective eye this morning though, and after speaking to a few friends with connections we figured it was worth sharing with all of you.

According to forum posts, tweets from people tangentially connected with music, and the loose lips of booking agents in the plains states, Avenged Sevenfold are supposedly planning a Fall tour with support from Deftones and Ghost. No dates for …

Deftones Release Statement on Chi’s Passing

It’s been nearly four years since Chi Cheng of Deftones suffered injuries from a car accident that had eventually resulted in his untimely passing on Saturday.

Words can’t describe the impact that Cheng had on the lives of hundreds, probably thousands of people. The band’s guitarist, Stephen Carpenter, made a statement courtesy of the California metal group for his former band mate and friend. Follow the jump to read entire post that had been taken from the band’s Facebook page.

There are so many things I can say, and yet at this moment, none of it matters or compares

Chi Cheng, Deftones Bassist Passes Away

We have some sad news to report tonight: it seems that Deftones bassist Chi Cheng has passed away.

After a car accident in Santa Clara, CA back in 2008, Chi suffered major injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. This accident left Cheng in a coma.

In 2010, the musician showed improvement, responding to commands and moving his legs. After showing more signs of rehabilitation, he was moved to his home for recovery.

Cheng died last night at 3am in the hospital. His family left the following note on a charity website made …

Metal innovators Deftones have something today for all their fans with record players. Really, for just 5,500 of their fans, to be precise.

The group will be releasing a couple different vinyl iterations of their most recent effort, 2012′s Koi No Yokan, today. Fans have their pick of three offerings (though you just know a handful of people are going to get all three, because they’re insufferable completists like that):

Periphery Added To Deftones US Tour

As of last night, Periphery have been included on what could be considered the band’s latest and greatest opportunity yet: opening for Deftones on the band’s Spring headlining tour of the US.

Periphery released Periphery II: This Time It’s Personal, their widely acclaimed second album back in July of 2012, and Deftones are just now touring in support of Koi No Yokan, their most recent album that made its way onto many best of 2012 lists, including ours. To many, this is a match made in alternative metal heaven. Or hell. I mean, we are talking about …

UTG LIST: Best Albums of 2012

All year the Under the Gun Review staff has weighed in on what we thought about the albums the music scene had to offer. This year has been good to us musically, but it’s a really hard process to shave down to our ten favorites of the year.

As you’ll see when you read through our list, genre is not a factor as albums span all different styles and tastes, and is telling about the eclectic nature of our staff. After loads of nominations, voting, and arguments, UTG is very proud to share with you our favorite albums of 2012.…

Does This Tweet From Chino Moreno Mean That Team Sleep Is Coming Back?

Chino Moreno is a weird, infrequent tweeter. After about five seconds of scrolling through the timeline of the Deftones frontman one will reach last years dusty microblogged missives.

He’s not big on communication either. Rather than building a rapport with his fans or efficiently sharing pertinent release or tour information, Moreno just wants to turn his followers onto as much music as possible. Who knew that Moreno is a Frankie Avalon fan? (And who knew that Frankie Avalon was this good?!)

Which makes Moreno’s somewhat cryptic tweet about his dormant Team Sleep project all the more intriguing.
