Listen to Ty Segall and Mikal Cronin Member’s New Band Meatbodies

Back when Ty Segall was touring in his new band FUZZ and Mikal Cronin made a critically-acclaimed solo debut, Chad Ubovich was playing guitar and bass behind both psych rock gods. Between tours, Ubovich spent his time recording his own crunchy fuzz as Chad and the Meatbodies. With a little help from Segall, he’s now gone on to be picked up by label In The Red and will be releasing his self-titled debut as the renamed Meatbodies.

The 12-track debut was recorded with Eric Bauer (Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, White Fence) and saw friends Cory Hanson of Wand and …

Mega Bog

Mega Bog Announce Debut Album ‘Gone Banana,’ Stream “Year of Patience”

After 5 years of self-released material and re-writing songs, Mega Bog are finally ready to share their debut album. Titled Gone Banana, the album drops September 23 via Couple Skate and showcases the group’s lo-fi jazz rock sound. Finally, a band you and your dad can agree on.

With Kevin Ayers and Steely Dan influences, the band have traces of psychedelia and mall jazz in their songs while keeping the songwriting core tender. Lead single “Year of Patience” introduces the band nicely with a strutting saxophone line and Erin Birgy’s coy vocals, taking on the sounds of Ariel Pink, Prefab …

Feel Your Skin Crawl While Watching the Debut Trailer for ‘Nightcrawler’

I have to let you know this up front: I’m a huge fan of Jake Gyllenhaal’s. I think he is wildly under appreciated, and does a lot of really great character work in almost all of his films, that usually ends up going unnoticed. Today, we are pleased to share with you the undeniably creepy trailer for Gyllenhaal’s new film, Nightcrawler.

The directorial debut of writer Dan Gilroy (The Fall, Real Steel, Bourne Legacy), Nightcrawler tells the story of Lou Bloom, a strangely driven man who in his attempt to find a job, discovers the dark world …

Little Daylight

Stream Little Daylight’s Debut Album ‘Hello Memory’

Brooklyn trio Little Daylight may claim to bring a small amount of light to the room, but we think they’ve got the whole thing glowing. After one listen to the CHVRCHES-esque “My Life,” we’ve been waiting for the synth pop group to drop their debut album, Hello Memory, on July 15. Now we get to hear it in full.

Hello Memory is ripe with sweetness the way CHVRCHES were in 2013 but manages to keep it on the cool side of things like M83. There’s youthful vibes trodding along fun instrumentation and post-rock, and cerebral structure, most of …

Cold Beat Over Me

Stream Cold Beat’s Debut Album ‘Over Me’

Lo-fi grunge surf rock could use more females fronting the scene, and thankfully Cold Beat is stepping up to the challenge. The San Francisco-based group sees Grass Widow’s Hannah Lew at the microphone, making their debut LP, Over Me, a must-listen.

We got a taste of the album with “Mirror” earlier on, and this week we get to give it a listen in full. There’s the bouncy happiness of “UV” and the cinematic structure of other efforts like “Abandon” and “Rain,” all compacted into a record that flies by. The 13-track full-length is an impressive entrance for the …

Crush Songs Karen O

Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O Announces Debut Solo Record, ‘Crush Songs’

Last year the Yeah Yeah Yeahs put out Mosquito, but it seems juggling that and music for Spike Jonze’s Her wasn’t enough to keep fontwoman Karen O busy. She’s just announced she will be dropping her first ever solo album, Crush Songs, September 9 via Cult (Julian Casablancas’ label). That’s the album art to the left.

It may come as a surprise that this is Karen O’s first solo record, but don’t forget that she only contributed one song to Her (the co-written “The Moon Song”) and composed the soundtrack for Where the Wild Things Are under the name Karen …

Angel Olsen

Watch Angel Olsen’s TV Debut on ‘Letterman’

It’s been four months since Angel Olsen‘s fantastic record Burn Your Fire For No Witness came out and not a week goes by that I don’t find myself listening to it in full. The only thing better than giving it a spin is hearing that material live. Thankfully the whole TV-watching world got a chance to experience that sound this week when Olsen stopped by the Late Show with David Letterman to perform “Hi-Five.”

The video is a good opportunity to see her singing style. It never ceases to amaze me how little she opens her mouth for some …

Real Estate

Watch Real Estate Debut New Song “White Light” and Cover Weezer’s “Say It Ain’t So”

It’s been quite a year for New Jersey indie rockers Real Estate. Not only did they put out an excellent new album, Atlas, but they announced a new live EP, shared US tour dates, and taught us how to play “Crime” on guitar. Naturally the next step was to stop by La Blogothèque for a dependably breathtaking live session. The 30-minute video has frontman Martin Courtney, guitarist Matt Modanile, and bassist Alex Bleeker playing in a cozy indoor setting to a small group of onlookers.

The video catches Real Estate playing music off of Atlas, including …

REVIEW: Northernmost – ‘Northernmost’

Artist: Northernmost
Album: Northernmost
Genre: Post-Hardcore, Indie

Let me first begin by saying I love the name Northernmost. I know one is to not judge a book by its cover, but anyone acclimated with my writing knows just how much I appreciate a northern escapist mindset. With this on the tip of my imagination, when Northernmost’s debut LP Northernmost made it to my ears, I was ready to find where the northernmost point truly is.

Beginning with the somber and calming “Basic Space,” Northernmost introduce us with ease to their vast soundscape. Releasing a swooning quell on the mind, “Basic …

Twin Shadow

Watch Twin Shadow Perform “To The Top” on ‘Conan’

Back in April, Twin Shadow dropped a powerful new song titled “To The Top.” It’s a strong pop piece of ’80s foundation with clean vocals sung over it, but that was all he shared. There was no word of a new album, an EP, or anything. So when he stepped onstage on Conan last night, his presence was an appreciated surprise.

Twin Shadow performed “To The Top,” showing that the song upholds its sturdy structure live just as well as it does in the recorded version. It was performed in a circle with some gospel, giving it the
