EDITORIAL: DMX’s ‘It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot’ Turns 15

We talk a lot about nostalgia, but rarely when it comes to the world of hip hop. Aside from our features on Lord Willin and Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” we have been admittedly lacking in our celebration of legendary releases in hip hop. This morning, however, a headline hit me in the face with all the power the reminder of how old you are possibly can. I knew right away I needed to write something, even if it were only a few lines, because this album was something special to me (even if I was 11 when it came out). Today …

REVIEW: EndAnd – ‘Mechanics & Energetics of Stilt-Running’

New York alternative punk trio EndAnd have crafted an entertaining listening experience in their first official LP, Mechanics & Energetics of Stilt-Running. Just barely breaking 21 minutes in length between its 11 tracks and with styles ranging from fast, angry punk to catchy melodic rock, Mechanics makes for a blur of a journey through a variety of styles that EndAnd is completely in control of.

HOLY SH!T: Kendrick Lamar’s First Mixtape Surfaces Online; Available For Stream & Download

These days, it’s hard to find anyone even remotely interested in hip hop who hasn’t heard the name Kendrick Lamar, but that wasn’t always the case. Everyone has to start somewhere, and today the world gets to learn more about young Kendrick Lamar.

All props are owed to MaskedGorilla, who earlier today had the pleasure of exclusively posting an otherwise digitally unreleased mixtape recorded by Kendrick Lamar when he was just sixteen-years-old. Titled Hub City Threat, Minor of the Year, Youngest Head Nigga In Charge, the true rap debut of Kendrick Lamar is littered with moments of brilliance …

When people think of Texas they usually think of cowboys and country music. Lucky for post hardcore/hardcore fans that is not the only genre of music the lone star state produces. Drake Releases “5AM In Toronto” Video

Young Money artist Drake has made good on promises from last month and released his official video for the song “5AM In Toronto.”

The clip, which is the second video from Drake to surface in 2013, finds the young MC reciting his lines while hanging out with friends in parking lots and indoor volleyball courts (seriously). When compared to “Started From The Bottom” there is not much to be said other than that this clip feels a bit lazy. It’s less than seven takes in maybe three locations and a song this powerful deserves far better. “Started From The Bottom” …

Queens Of The Stone Age Debut New Song At Lollapalooza Brazil

Happy Easter to everyone out there! Today is truly a special day for many reasons.

Queens Of The Stone Age are reunited and were filmed yesterday debuting a brand new song called “My God is the Sun” out at Lollapalooza Brazil.

This song was performed with new drummer Jon Theodore (The Mars Volta & One Day As A Lion), which is a fantastic way to introduce new material. We understand Theodore has some pretty big shoes to fill but he killed this rendition. Watch after the jump!

“My God is the Sun” is rumored to appear on QOTSA’s forthcoming album, …

The New ‘World War Z’ Trailer Is The Perfect Way To Start Your Week

Though there seems to be a significantly smaller amount of familiar characters at the box office this Summer, there will certainly still be a number of gigantic tentpole efforts released in hopes of carrying a major studio through the slower months ahead. Of all those films planned for Summer 2013, the one whose quality remains in question is none other than the book adaptation of World War Z. A new trailer arrived online today and, for once, I think it’s safe to say something truly epic is on the way.

Unless you have spent the better part of the …

STREAM: At Night We Strike (ex-Dead Poetic, Oh, Sleeper) – “Your Own Skin”

Back in late January, news came out that spoke of Lucas Starr teaming up with drummer Ryan Sprague and vocalist Brandon Rike for a new side project, now it looks like we’ve just gotten a fresh taste of it with their first song, “Your Own Skin”.

The two of the musicians have a good track record behind them. Starr used to play bass for Oh, Sleeper, a Texas-based Christian metalcore band tootup until he had left the band on the best of terms in 2011, and Rike had been the vocalist of Dead Poetic, a no longer active …
