DAMMIT: The Mars Volta Aren’t On Hiatus… They Broke Up

The Mars Volta frontman Cedric Bixler Zavala had quite a night on Twitter. His ramblings focused mainly on the truth about The Mars Volta, who are apparently not on hiatus, but instead are no longer a band at all. Omar Rodriguez will focus on Bosnian Rainbows, while Cedric is apparently going to start a new group. I would suggest At The Drive In would get back together, but given that Sparta is in the studio and Bosnian Rainbows are on tour… no.

It honestly sounds like Omar and Cedric had some head butting. Rather than summarize, see all his …

DAMMIT: No Rage Against The Machine Album In The Works

Well color me unsurprised, here. Previously, TMZ had two run ins with Rage Against The Machine bassist Tim Commerford, both in random Los Angeles parking lots, in which Tim basically insinuated (in a joking way) that a new RATM album may have been in the works. Now, Tom Morello has used his swift foot of rebellion to crush our hopes of a new album.

He said the band has “no plans beyond” their upcoming re-release of their debut album, this time called XX for its twentieth anniversary. He told that to Billboard, who also asked if the …

DAMMIT: Even Though Liam Says No, It Looks Like “Taken 3″ May Be On The Way

This is bullshit. I understand how business works enough to know that studios are going to cash in on any/everything they think will turn a profit, but does no one have the heart (or soul) to admit when they’re doing the audience wrong?

After an insanely successful opening weekend, talk began to swirl early Sunday that Taken 3 may soon be on the way. Star Liam Neeson quickly squashed these ideas when he was quoted by Empire as saying:

“I don’t see it. I don’t think it’s going to happen. I really don’t. I can’t see a possible scenario

DAMMIT: Animals As Leaders Robbed While Away On Tour, Ask Fans For Help

The shitty news continues to roll out this weekend with one of UTG’s favorites becoming victims of yet another senseless crime.

Animals As Leaders recently returned home from tour to discover thieves had stolen guitarist Javier Reyes’ Chevy Blazer, as well as 10 guitars, amplifiers, PA equipment, and personal items. In an attempt to recover some, if not all of the missing gear, Reyes and bandmate Tosin Abasi posted the following message on the group’s Facebook:

Hey guys.

We’ve got some pretty terrible news to report. Upon returning home to our house in LA we discovered that we’d been …

DAMMIT: Dr. Acula Put On Their Serious Face, Release New Song

Victory Records’ Dr. Acula have released the first song off their forthcoming album. Entitled “Nation,” the track finds the group’s vocalists (because Victory loves bands with two vocalists) switching lines about the state of the nation and how everyone needs to band together while doing their best to scream worse than one another. You can stream the track after the jump.

While I can appreciate an artist trying to take a more serious tone with their music, Dr. Acula could not have fallen more flat on their faces with this track. The reason they were signed, hell, the only reason …

DAMMIT: Miss Spoof Films? Don’t Worry, “The Starving Games” Are On The Way!

The talk of the Mayan calendar foretelling the end of the world has been disproven by countless scientists, but this morning’s movie news does affirm our belief that humanity is slipping ever closer to the edge of extinction.

Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, the two guys who struck gold with Scary Movie over a decade ago before turning their (lack of) writing talents to parodying every genre and major feature they could craft a poop joke around, have announced they are beginning work on a parody film based off The Hunger Games entitled, The Starving Games. Peter Safran will …

UTG Time Capsule: The Wonder Years

UTG Time Capsule is a weekly feature in which we showcase a classic music video that we feel left a mark on the music world. When possible, the choices for each week [and the reasoning behind it], will come from a member of the music industry [artists, label people, publicists, journalists, etc] so that we and you at home [or wherever] can get a sense of what influenced the individuals who influence all of us. Also, we will be having bands pick their favorite videos from their own career to see what made that experience more memorable than the rest.
