LIVE REVIEW: Circa Survive at Union Transfer in Philadelphia, PA (12/13/14)

There’s always something special about welcoming a band home after a long tour. One would think that this band (and the rest on the bill) would be worn out, deflated, and simply spent after a month and a half of straight touring. Circa Survive are not that band. Well, not that tired and exhausted band. They are, in fact, the band that Philadelphia welcomed home with open arms and strong voices at Union Transfer this past weekend.

Opening the latter half of the tour was Baltimore’s Pianos Become the Teeth, fresh off the release of their third, near-perfect record, …

REVIEW: Circa Survive – ‘Descensus’

Artist: Circa Survive
Album: Descensus
Genre: Progressive Rock, Experimental
Label: Sumerian Records

On their fifth full-length, Descensus, Circa Survive have reinvented themselves with staggering efficiency, resulting in their most abrasive, well-rounded attempt to date. A stark divergence from 2012’s Violent Waves, the ten-track effort is laden with the same soaring intricacies that fans have grown to love, only this time around, they are implemented with a unified sense of purpose. Introspective and upfront, it is a perfect blend of all the band’s past embodiments, littered with enough nuance to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Hold on to your butts, rock fans. Circa Survive have shared a new song off their forthcoming album and it’s guaranteed to make your day a bit better.

Titled “Only The Sun,” the latest offering off Descensus is a large and dramatic track that offers a little bit of everything Circa fans have come to expect from the alternative rock headliners. Circa Survive Release Video For New Single, Launch Pre-orders For ‘Descensus’

It’s been less than two weeks since Circa Survive officially announced their fifth LP, Descensus, which is due out on November 24 through their new label, Sumerian Records.

Following the brief teaser found with the announcement, the band has released a visually stunning and disturbingly surreal new video for the album’s lead single, entitled “Schema,” which we heard a brief snippet of in the album’s initial trailer.
