For Today

Watch For Today’s Video For “Break The Cycle” Featuring Matty Mullins

Fight The Silence is For Today‘s fifth studio album. They released it last month via Razor & Tie Records. The album’s theme overall is about pulling people out of darkness and hate, and one song in particular that carries this message is “Break The Cycle,” featuring Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire. There’s no doubt that For Today is a Christian band, and frontman Mattie Montgomery has made it a point to use his faith to guide his music. The band released a music video for this song, and it’s just about what you might expect from a …

The Lock In

Film: The Lock-In
Produced by: Rich Praytor and Beverly Banks, Holy Moly Productions

This past weekend, I watched a Christian-produced found footage horror film called The Lock-In with my girlfriend and friend. The Lock-In tells the story of three friends who unlock a demon when they bring a porn magazine to their overnight church lock-in. Read those two sentences again. Did you laugh? Probably, because that is arguably the most ridiculous film concept you will read about in 2014. When UTG got the press release for The Lock-In, we all pretty unanimously freaked out about it, because we hoped …

REVIEW: Color Me Valiant – ‘SinnerServantSon’

Artist: Color Me Valiant
Album: SinnerServantSon
Label: None
Genre: Metalcore

Color Me Valiant are a six piece metalcore outfit, hailing from Richmond, Virginia. On August 2 they released their sophomore EP, SinnerServantSon, via their Bandcamp page. This is the follow up to their EP, Secrets, which they released in January of 2012.

SinnerServantSon‘s first track, “Commissioned,” opens up with a spoken word intro: “This is a message of love // For those of you who have never felt the embrace of a father // This is a message of strength // For those whose burdens have proven …

REVIEW: Beartooth – Sick EP

Artist: Beartooth
Album: Sick EP
Genre: Metalcore

For all the ups and downs, criticism, and for lack of a better term, “scene bullshit,” Ohio metalcore outfit Attack Attack! have faced over the years, their ever-rotating lineup has produced some of the most notable names in the current heavy music game. First came Austin Carlile, whose post-AA life has been covered endless with Of Mice & Men, and now Caleb Shomo returns with a new band and renewed passion for music that grabs you by the collar and refuses to let go. Beartooth may have only been active since late 2012, …

UTG INTERVIEW: Wolves At The Gate

It’s been a year since Wolves At The Gate debuted their first full-length, Captors, an excellent post-hardcore album that is genuinely a must-listen for fans of the genre. Rather than sit around and soak up the success of the release after a tour or two, though, the band haven’t slowed down one bit in that time span. Instead, they’ve constantly trekked across the United States while displaying an obvious passion for spreading their music and message.

We had the pleasure of sitting down for an in-depth conversation with clean vocalist/guitarist Steve Cobucci and bass guitarist Ben Summers about life …

With a groundbreaking album release this March for both themselves and their label in the form of Creation/Destruction, alongside an ever-increasing number of stacked tours with the likes of I Declare War, The Plot In You, and Oh, Sleeper, things are looking pretty bright these days for Solid State Records’ own Fit For A King.

We recently had the chance to speak with frontman Ryan Kirby at the Christian metal scene’s annual summer centerpiece, Scream The Prayer, about a variety of topics including the group’s successful sophomore full-length along with a plethora of future plans which range from re-recording …

August Burns Red

UTG INTERVIEW: Jake Luhrs of heartsupport / August Burns Red

Last week we chatted with Jake Luhrs of August Burns Red, but instead of focusing our conversation on band stuff like their upcoming album, Rescue & Restore, we talked about Luhrs’ nonprofit, heartsupport. The frontman will be busy round the clock on every single day of this summer’s Warped Tour working as hard as he can, performing with ABR and representing heartsupport. Despite the ridiculous workload that’s waiting for him, he couldn’t be any more hopeful and excited for what’s to come.

UTG: For those who don’t know, what’s the story of heartsupport? How did it come

Into The Flood

REVIEW: Into The Flood – Vices

ARTIST: Into The Flood
ALBUM: Vices
Genre: Metalcore
Label: Century Media Records

When I hear news about a relatively young band with little to no national buzz surrounding them getting picked up by a label as big as Century Media Records, it leaves me wondering just what the hype is all about. Sometimes, there can be a stereotypical gimmick involved, and other times it’s something as plain and simple as the said big label preying on an unlucky group of fame-seeking musicians who made the wrong decision of signing to the wrong label. Fortunately, neither is the case with Into …

For Today 2012

Well the internet sure hasn’t kept quiet about this one.

After what seems to have been a decision made as a result of the criticism, name-calling, and hatred that came from Mike Reynolds’ Thursday morning rant on homosexuality, the guitarist has now left For Today to pursue what he claims to be a life in full time missions. Taking his place will be Sam Penner, a former guitarist of In The Midst Of Lions. This news came in the form of a status update on the band’s Facebook page, and was coupled with a personal apology and video …

As Cities Burn Releasing New Album?

A resurrected As Cities Burn took to their social networks just a mere three hours ago to announce that the band has plans to release for a new project in the works. Sure, the band has had a history of teasing big news well in advance of it’s time, but we here at UTG could not be more excited to hear of this.

Any details as to whether or not this will include the band’s former vocalist TJ Bonnette remain unknown. While generally seen as the Bonette, what was originally the band’s primary vocalist, left (on good terms) when …

Underoath Reveal Final Tour Dates And Support

Christian metalcore group Underoath recently announced that they were calling it quits, but we’ve just been given the details for their final tour. This nine date leg will be the final set of shows that they will play together as a band, and they will be supported by groups mewithoutyou, As Cities Burn, and letlive. The tour is short, but will be surely something you cannot miss. While we are all saddened to see the band go, we are happy they are playing a final set of goodbyes after fourteen years of shows, albums, and memories.

You …
