Thee Oh Sees Drop

Stream Thee Oh Sees’ New Album ‘Drop’ In Full

After a 16-year run, San Francisco garage rock staples Thee Oh Sees announced, pretty much out of nowhere, that they would be going on a hiatus.

At this point, it’s pretty clear frontman John Dwyer‘s words about not playing a show for a “long while” were loose. He announced his own new band, Damaged Bug, shared some tunes, and now, a few months later, Thee Oh Sees are back with another new album.

The record, titled Dropfollows up their 2013 release Floating Coffin. It comes out on April 19 (aka Record Store Day) via Dwyer’s …

ALBUM STREAM: Love American – ‘Hollow Crosses’

Now defunct California post-hardcore outfit Love American may be gone, but they treated fans with one last hurrah before speeding off into the sunset. On Sunday, the group released Hollow Crosses, their final EP, as a free download via Bandcamp.

The record is a fitting way to send off Love American as it consists of the raw emotion and impressive instrumental work that defined them throughout their existence, so be sure to stream Hollow Crosses after the jump.…

REVIEW: Dirty Up – ‘Thrillwave’

Artist: Dirty Up
Album: Thrillwave
Genre: Rap/Hip-Hop

When it comes to transcendental production, Clams Casino has undoubtedly set the standard over the past few years with his career-launching work for artists such as A$AP Rocky and Lil B. Recently, though, upcoming talents such as the Sad Boy crew’s Yung Gud have begun to master the style and show promise of becoming household names themselves. With the release of a brand new EP, Thrillwave, Bay Area born and North Carolina residing artist Matt Futch, better known as Dirty Up, is looking to join this conversation as he flows atop …

Of Us Giants Nova Scotia

UTG EXCLUSIVE: Of Us Giants – “Nova Scotia” (Feat. Lindsey Pavao)

We here at UTG are pretty excited to introduce you to California’s Of Us Giants today. In about two months, the band will be releasing their first ever full length album by the name of Nova Scotia on January 28, 2014, and lucky for you, we’re sharing the lead single off of the record right here.

Musically, ”Nova Scotia” is on point. Initially, the song comes off as an informal tip of the hat to some of the influential singer-songwriters of the past – such as Conor Oberst and Elliott Smith – before transforming into a full band jam that …

Authority Zero

Authority Zero & Guttermouth To Tour In 2014

Authority Zero have always been known to blend a unique combination of punk rock and reggae. They have been doing it well since their first album in 2002. If you haven’t had a chance to see the guys perform in the past decade, you finally have your chance!

The band will be on the road co-headlining with Californian punks Guttermouth, who’ve been at it since the ’80s. They haven’t released an album since 2006′s Shave the Planet, so hopefully we’ll hear something new from them soon. Give Guttermouth’s most recent album a listen or check out Authority Zero’s …

Goldfinger

UTG PHOTOS: Reel Big Fish & Goldfinger (11/13/13)

Under The Gun sent photographer, Derek Scancarelli, to the Don’t Stop Skankin’ Tour at The Paramount in Huntington, NY.

I attended my first concert in 2002 — ever since I’ve been dying to see Goldfinger. Come on, everyone has at least one ska period in their life. The concert was a great show and I was pumped to see Reel Big Fish for the hundredth time; it never gets old.

Unfortunately, I had some prior obligations so I wasn’t able to snap any photos of the opening bands, although I heard they put on a rather good performance.

The …

hrbrs

HRBRS Part Ways With Vocalist

California hardcore outfit HRBRS have been through a variety of member changes over the span of their existence, but this fact does not make departures any less saddening when they occur. Today’s adieu is especially difficult, as vocalist and founding member Matt Gutierrez has announced he will be parting ways with the band. According to Gutierrez, the split is fully amicable and came solely from his yearlong struggle of grappling with whether or not to leave the band. He also stated he feels the group will “come back stronger than ever” after regrouping, and it’s hard not to believe him …

Living Ghosts, the one man spoken word/post-rock project of California musician Ray Bolado, has released a brand new EP entitled Forever & A Day. For those who enjoy the idea of a mixture of acts such as Listener and Hotel Books, this record is not one to sleep on as Living Ghosts provides an instrumentally sound, emotionally driven collection of four songs.

FILMAGE

MOVIE REVIEW: ‘Filmage: The Story of Descendents / ALL’

Movie: Filmage: The Story of Descendents / ALL
Director: Matt Riggle, Deedle LaCour
Director of Photography: Justin Wilson
Editor: James Rayburn, Deedle LaCour, Justin Wilson

The guys in Descendents all knew that they weren’t cut out for the glamorous punk rock scene of Hollywood. Hell, the guys were too busy drinking coffee, farting, fishing, and playing mad scientist to worry about styling their hair and getting leather jackets. That didn’t stop them from changing rock music forever.

In spirit of our recent interview with Descendents’ drummer Bill Stevenson, Under The Gun Review has received an advanced copy of Filmage:
