STREAM: Ellie Goulding – “Hanging On (ft. Tinie Tempah)”

Electro-pop heart-breaker, Ellie Goulding, is at it again. The British songstress has released a new track featuring English hip-hop artist, Tinie Tempah entitled “Hanging On”. It is Goulding’s first new track to surface since the release (and re-release) of her 2010 debut, Lights. Goulding’s instantly recognizable burnt soprano grabbed many listeners’  attention right off the bat. Couple that with her pop sensibility, and the hook was set. Lights is brilliant.

Goulding is hard at work on her follow-up to Lights. Rumor has it that “Hanging On” is going to be on the forthcoming sophomore record. Yet, Goulding has …

Ain’t No Party Like An S Club 7 Party Cause an S Club 7 Party Don’t Stop (Apparently)

In a shocking turn of events, UK pop group from the 90′s S Club 7 is apparently reforming this summer for a UK tour and two album deal, the Huffington Post says. S Club 7 joins the ranks of the Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block who have come back to reclaim the glory days (were there glory days?) and put out some new music and tour for their fans. For some, this will be really awesome, and I totally understand the appeal, but this recent trend of groups like this getting together is quite odd to me. …

Review: Band of Skulls – Sweet Sour

Artist: Band of Skulls
Album: Sweet Sour
Genre: Indie-Rock/Blues-Rock
Label: Electric Blues Recordings

It has been quite some time since Band of Skulls have released new material. Both the Friends EP and the live album Live on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic were released back in ’10, and since then the band has kept fairly quiet. Finally, the three-piece have broken the silence with their sophomore effort Sweet Sour. Like the title implies, the album is a bombastic blend of sludgy distortion and haunting melodics.

REVIEW: Pulled Apart By Horses – Tough Love

Artist: Pulled Apart By Horses
Album: Tough Love
Genre: indie rock/post-hardcore
Label: Transgressive Records

When they came barreling on to the scene, Pulled Apart By Horses gained the attention critics and fans alike for the their energetic, bombastic live shows. With their self-titled debut record Pulled Apart By Horses was able to capture everything that made their live shows great without losing anything in the studio. On Tough Love the band sounds tighter, sharper and, maybe, a little cleaner. Despite the studio’s polish Tough Love is still brash and bratty.
