REVIEW: Have Mercy – The Earth Pushed Back

Band: Have Mercy
Album: The Earth Pushed Back
Genre: Alternative
Label: Topshelf Records

There haven’t been a ton of records I’ve been really excited about this year thus far. I’ve given some high marks in terms of “scoring,” and I think that is partially because there has been a lot of pretty mediocre records coming out of the scene these days, and I’ve lost sight of what truly great really means. Though it may seem strange to admit, some albums I’ve given high marks to earlier in the year may have deserved lower scores in hindsight. Why, you ask? Well, …

Brand New Line Up Shows Around Riot Fest

Seeing Brand New live has become the musical equivalent to finding a golden ticket in your Wonka bar. It is anyone’s guess when or where they will play next, and it’s rare any announcement outside of major festivals happens more than a few weeks in advance. Lucky for fans in the midwest, this is not the case today.

Starting at noon today, UTG has learned that Brand New will be announcing a handful of shows around their scheduled September appearance at Riot Fest in Chicago. PropertyOfZack already located one gig in upstate New York, and we can tell you exclusively …

Brand New To Put Out New Music This Summer, According To Fan On Twitter

Michael Rugenus is a freelance graphic designer from New Jersey. Last night, he attended the first live concert of mysterious supergroup Shone at Mercury Lounge in New York City.

You know who else was in attendance? Jesse Lacey, the frontman of Brand New. Based on a few tweets from Rugenus, aka @Bigg_Tuna, over the course of the night, it appears that he managed to strike up a conversation with the singer-songwriter. If Rugenus’ tweets are to be believed, it looks like Lacey decided to drop a bombshell during their chat – that Brand New would have new music …

Mystery Project Shone Leads Fans On Scavenger Hunt, New Song Found

Earlier this month, several rock artists Tweeted links to http://www.heatthing.com/, including Vinnie Caruana, Kevin Devine, and eventually John Nolan, Thrice, and Manchester Orchestra. The website has been updating videos at its page on a regular basis between midnight and one AM Eastern time, leading fans to speculate on what the page was actually for. The website is called Heat Thing, but it speaks of Shone on the website – but more on this part of the mystery later.

It has a mailing list – not just digital, but also asking for your home address. It gives …

WATCH: Kevin Devine with Jesse Lacey (Brand New) – “Cotton Crush” (Live)

This past Saturday in New York City, Kevin Devine and the God Damn Band did a show celebrating ten years of making music together where they played three of Devine’s albums (Circle Gets The Square, Split the Country, Split the Street, Between the Concrete & Clouds) front to back. On the original version of “Cotton Crush,” Jesse Lacey from Brand New sings some backing vocals. Live on Saturday, he recreated the performance.

It’s a good view for how intense they get in the second verse. You can watch the song recorded by a fan in the …

WATCH: Taking Back Sunday Discuss “Rivalry” With Brand New

The so-called “feud” between Taking Back Sunday and Brand New is as old as the misuse of emo. Since the days following the release of Tell All Your Friends people have used message boards and venue parking lots to debate the cause of the battle that reportedly inspired a slew of fan favorites from each artist, and last night in Philadelphia Taking Back Sunday finally broke their silence. I’ll let the guys from New Jersey tell their own story instead of boring you with my interpretation, so just click through the link below and enjoy.

Taking Back Sunday are currently …

2012 has been a year filled with reunions and anniversary tours. We debated as a staff for hours over which albums from 2003 mean the most, and now are beyond excited to share with you our …

Jesse Lacey Talks About Brand New

Alternative rock outfit, Brand New, are not the most outgoing of all the “big bands” in the alt-scene today. Their well known spat with American media has been in full-force for over six years now, which has manifested itself in an all-out boycott of US outlets. However, the Long Island quintet have been more cooperative with Canadian and European media… especially as of recently.

Brand New singer, Jesse Lacey, recently did an enlightening interview with ExtremeNonchalance.com where he spoke on various topics ranging from the aforementioned media boycott to what direction he believes Brand New will head in for …

Brand New Hope to Release New Music

It looks like the wheels of mysterious alternative rock powerhouse, Brand New, are in fact still moving (albeit at the Long Island quintet’s own speed). In a recent interview with VueWeekly.com, Brand New frontman, Jesse Lacey, discussed the band’s inter-workings and their plans for the future.

Lacey expressed a desire to get new music out sooner rather than later, stating,

We have this buzzing in us that we want to do things and I hope that we can see those things through. I think people expect more from us and I think we expect more from us.

Brand …
