Record Store Day 2013 Release List Announced

Vinyl purchasing is on the rise in the industry. However it never really died. Celebrated since 2007, Record Store Day is a day in April (2013 will celebrate on April 20) where fans celebrate their local record shops by purchasing records. While I am of the strict belief that every day is record store day, this special day does have something fun to offer collectors: limited vinyl. Today at UTG we are excited to share with you a list (which I’m sure will get updated).

REVIEW: Alcoa – Bones and Marrow

Artist: Alcoa
Album: Bones and Marrow
Label: Bridge 9

Defeater is a hardcore band that’s been on the rise over the past few years. With their release of Empty Days & Sleepless Nights in 2011, the band grew exponentially in their popularity. They are fast, aggressive and just an overall intense emotional experience. When I found out that singer of Defeater Derek Archambault had a side project named Alcoa, I was skeptical. I knew that the acoustic tracks on Empty Days & Sleepless Nights were awesome, but I didn’t really know how much of a hand Derek had  in …

Album Stream: The Wallflowers Preview “Glad All Over”

Slated for an October 2 release through Columbia Records, The Wallflowers are previewing their new album, Glad All Over, on iTunes.

Whereas each song only gets a minute-and-a-half preview, the streams are enough to get a decent grasp on the album.

Glad All Over was announced earlier this year after Jakob Dylan, son of Bob Dylan, told Rolling Stone of the band’s return from hiatus.

Dylan still sports his signature slow, drawling vocals over The Wallflowers’ classic alternative folk-rock sound.

The band will be touring throughout North America until mid-November in support of Glad All Over. Purchase …

REVIEW: Bob Dylan – Tempest

Artist: Bob Dylan
Album: Tempest
Genre: Bob Dylan
Label: Columbia

Let’s just put into context what a writer is up against when asked to break down the music of Bob Dylan. The album crooning through my Koss headphones will mark the 35th album released by the man. That’s 3 more albums than I have years of life. He has sold roughly sixty-million albums in his lifetime, give or take a bundle. If I handed a purchased album to every person in Italy, there would be albums left to give. Can a whole civilization be wrong about an artist? Additionally, …

Bob Dylan Presented With Medal Of Freedom

Yesterday was a memorable day for Bob Dylan because he was presented with the Medal of Freedom at the White House by President Barack Obama. He is among 13 recipients of the United States’ highest civilian award. To your left is the official picture of Obama presenting him with the prestigious award.

Barack Obama had this to say regarding Dylan’s impact on the world of music and social prowess.

“By the time he was 23, Bob’s voice, with its weight, its unique, gravelly power was redefining not just what music sounded like, but the message it carried and how it

Who doesn’t love those ugly Christmas sweaters in the feature photo? Most of all, who doesn’t love a new cover by Queens Of The Stone Age? The answer to both of these questions should be pretty obvious, because they are equally awesome.

Bob Dylan plays first live show in Vietnam

The folk-rock legend is popular in our country for his strong protest songs such as “Blowin’ in the Wind” and “The Times They Are a-Changin’.” However, when Dylan plays his first-ever live show in Ho Chi Minh City on April 10th, his set-list will be reviewed by government officials to keep the politics under cover.
Rolling Stone gives more details here.
