Baauer And “Harlem Shake” Materialize At The Top Of Billboard Hot 100 Chart Thanks To Incorporation Of Streaming Data

The stars just keep aligning for young trap producer Baauer.

First his song, “Harlem Shake”, became the sonic framework for a video dance meme, a meme which accelerated in popularity at an unprecedented rate. Then he topped the iTunes Singles chart. Now, to complete his coronation as king beatmaker of the moment, he sits at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“How is this possible?” you may ask. After all, as popular as his song might be, its URL success hasn’t translated into radio airplay just yet. Well, that doesn’t matter any more.

Prince 2013

LYRIC VIDEO: Prince – “Screwdriver”

After releasing a special teaser clip not that long ago, Prince is ready to unveil “Screwdriver” in its entirety. Get ready for an old-school vibe on this new song from the Billboard-featured artist.

Laced with plenty of crunchy and fuzzy guitar tones, layered vocals, and an unmistakable (and slightly awkward) chorus (“I’m your driver and you’re my screw”), the track is meant to get you out of your seat and dancing. Does this mean there could be a possible full-length album in the works from the independent artist? We shall see!

Head through for you first look/listen at the entire …

Rick Ross 2012

“God Forgives, I Don’t” Debuts At #1 On Billboard

Rick Ross remains “the boss” of the charts this week with a number one debut for his latest release, God Forgives I Don’t. Released through the untouchable Maybach Music Empire, Ross’ latest marks his fourth number one release. Hits Daily Double reports the record moved just over 215,000 units, which is a 30k jump from the release week of his previous effort.

As much as we love Ross, 215k is pretty low if one hopes to go platinum. If you dig the record, be sure to pick up a copy (and buy one for a friend).

Drake Discusses Third Album’s Direction

Billboard has made it quite clear that Drake’s upcoming album is going to be his most exciting project to date and we cannot wait for new music soon.

In a recent discussion with the fine people at Billboard, Drake commented about the tone of his recent album Take Care and how this third release will take a different route. Here’s what he had to say:

“I think my mood will be reflected in the tempos I choose for the music. A lot of ‘Take Care,’ it’s down… and I think a lot of it had to do with being back

STREAM/DOWNLOAD: Diggy – What You Say To Me (J.Cole Diss)

Adding his name to the list of young rappers who have not figured out when they should keep their mouths shut, Diggy has released a response to J. Cole’s diss on “Grew Up Fast.”

Okay, that was a bit harsh. “What You Say To Me” is not trash by any means, Diggy definitely has some skills behind the mic. That said, coming off a debut album that opened outside the Billboard top 10 after months of hype and taking shots at a Billboard chart topper who could potentially help his career is definitely not the ideal move for any developing …

GIVE UP: Katy Perry’s “One That Got Away” Peaks On Chart, Decides To Release ANOTHER Remix

Dammit Katy Perry, I thought we talked about this (at least twice). Just because you want something does not mean you should, or ever will, have it.

As we have been covering for months, Katy Perry is still trying to claim the Guinness record for most #1 singles on a single album. She tied Michael Jackson with five in the fall and had hoped “The One The Got Away” would give her the all-important sixth hit, but the public just was not interested.

Never one to back down very easily, Perry and her team recruited Atlanta rapper …
