REVIEW: Such Gold – ‘The New Sidewalk’

Artist: Such Gold
Album: The New Sidewalk
Label: Razor & Tie Records
Genre: Punk, Melodic Hardcore

Whenever a band is releasing a new album, I always observe how their music has evolved in a lot of aspects. This can include the band’s direction in sound, what the members have done to progress in their respective playing abilities, how personal their lyrics are, who is producing the album, etc.

Being an early listener of Rochester, NY’s melodic hardcore band Such Gold, I have seen the overall aroma of the band grow with each release in terms of lyrics, production, and …

UTG PHOTOS: FLAG (9/19/13)

Under The Gun sent photographer, Derek Scancarelli, to photograph FLAG in New York City on September 19, 2013.

There has been a whole load of controversy over who can properly deem the title of Black Flag. Given that there are currently two touring lineups performing songs written under that name, it can get quite confusing.

To see Bill Stevenson’s take on the situation, check out UTG’s exclusive interview with him.

Whether or not you have an opinion on which lineup is the legitimate one, UTG can assure you that FLAG perform a pretty kick-ass show. This arrangement consists of original …

MOVIE REVIEW: ‘Filmage: The Story of Descendents / ALL’

Movie: Filmage: The Story of Descendents / ALL
Director: Matt Riggle, Deedle LaCour
Director of Photography: Justin Wilson
Editor: James Rayburn, Deedle LaCour, Justin Wilson

The guys in Descendents all knew that they weren’t cut out for the glamorous punk rock scene of Hollywood. Hell, the guys were too busy drinking coffee, farting, fishing, and playing mad scientist to worry about styling their hair and getting leather jackets. That didn’t stop them from changing rock music forever.

In spirit of our recent interview with Descendents’ drummer Bill Stevenson, Under The Gun Review has received an advanced copy of Filmage:

Black Flag Issues Statement On Black Flag, Flag

In the 1970s, people constantly wondered if rock and roll had a future, and if so, what it would be. Fast forward to 2013, and we can safely say that even punk rock is all about cash once you get over the hill. Two forms of the famed hardcore punk group Black Flag have gotten back together, both featuring original members; one uses the proper title Black Flag and is fronted by guitarist Greg Ginn, another is called FLAG and is fronted by original frontman Keith Morris. By this point in the saga, you most likely already knew this.

Black Flag’s Greg Ginn Sues Ex-Bandmates Over Use of Logo and Name

As with any great band making a comeback, it seems the quarrels, or lawsuits, come before the tours even finish. Two versions of Black Flag reunited this year to make things confusing for fans: Black Flag (led by Greg Ginn) and FLAG (comprised of Keith Morris, Chuck Dukowski, Dez Cadena, Bill Stevenson, and Descendents guitarist Stephen Egerton). Now it seems fans weren’t the only ones to be confused. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Greg Ginn and his label, SST Records, have sued both FLAG and former Black Flag frontman Henry Rollins over the use of the band’s …

Alkaline Trio is officially working on the follow up to last year’s Damnesia. The currently untitled album will be produced by Bill Stevenson.

Bassist Dan Andriano previously said “We’re going to go work with Bill [Stevenson] at Fort Collins at the Blasting Room. Bill and Jason [Livermore]. We’ve all wanted to work with Bill for a long time and this is kind of the time to do it. So we’re going to go hang out there in October. Make a new record.” But it seems they’ve entered earlier than expected, and have officially begun recording.
