PVRIS Covering Tove Lo Is As Exciting As Christmas Morning

BBC Radio One has given the world many wonderful music moments during its long-heralded existence, but I don’t know if any one segment has more frequently provided quality shareable content than the station’s ongoing efforts to capture unique in-studio performances. Everyone, and I mean everyone in pop music today has at least been asked to appear, and every single person who said yes has delivered an unexpected cover that (usually) goes viral on some level.

The latest band to enter the Radio One studio is none other than PVRIS, who are currently riding a wave of critical acclaim and …

Charli XCX Taylor Swift

Watch Charli XCX’s Punk Cover of Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off”

Britain’s pop-meets-punk singer-songwriter Charli XCX put out her excellent sophomore LP Sucker last year to applauding reviews. While she’s busy supporting that album, Charli XCX took some time to stop by the BBC’s Live Lounge to perform a cover of Taylor Swift‘s “Shake It Off.” Considering the two are friends, it shouldn’t come as a surprise. And given Charli XCX’s fondness for breaking the rules of pop and fashion, her twist on the mainstream hit shouldn’t come as a surprise, either.

In classic Charli XCX style, she turns “Shake It Off” into a pop song for fists in …

Lorde Just Covered Jeremih’s Hit Single “Don’t Tell Em” (And It’s Amazing)

Oh, Lorde. I once thought our love affair with your music was a fleeting burst of hormones and originality, but over the last year you have made it abundantly clear that you will be a staple of music for many years to come. You do what you please when you want, and as far as I can tell no one tries to stop you. Why should they? You’re the golden calf of pop music!

Whether you agree with the paragraph above or not, I think we can all agree Lorde is as much of pop culture today as she was …

Baauer Teams Up With AlunaGeorge For “One Touch”

While Baauer is best known to much of the world’s population for a repetitive trap song turned viral hit whose name we will purposefully omit in hopes of not reminding our readers of its existence (…okay, it was the “Harlem Shake”), he is in fact an extremely well-versed producer with a nuanced ear for blending the sounds of hip-hop, electronic music, and r&b. Thus, it’s no surprise his newest release, “One Touch,” is an absolute success with the assistance of the equally experimental London duo, AlunaGeorge.

Featuring clanging instrumentals that bounce back and forth behind Aluna Francis’ signature crooning for …

Daft Punk Documentary Coming In 2015

The Daft Punk hype will continue into next year as BBC Worldwide Production France teams up with French TV channel Canal+ to bring an hour-long TV documentary. The untitled documentary is set to air in 2015.

The documentary will be written and directed by Hervé Martin Delpierre, and co-written by Marina Rozenman. Producer, Patrice Gellé said, “We are proud to announce our first commission with Canal Plus Group on such an original and creative …

Watch CHVRCHES Cover Lorde’s “Team”

Have you heard of CHVRCHES? You’ve heard of CHVRCHES. The Scottish electro-pop trio have been taking over the buzzes of the internet, storming forums and news headlines since their debut album, The Bones of What You Believe, came out in late September. The album, which has pleased fans and critics alike, consists of 12 tracks of pure pop bliss. Lead singer Lauren Mayberry carries listeners with her bright melodies, all through the sea of sound multi-instrumentalists Iain Cook, and Martin Doherty create.

To add to the band’s awesomeness, a video of them covering Lorde’s hit track “Team” has surfaced. From …

Robin Thicke 2013

Robin Thicke Covers Icona Pop’s “I Love It”

Ready to get weird? Read on.

Icona Pop struck pop gold with the release of “I Love It” late last year. In the months since its release dozens of remixes and covers have surfaced, and the vast majority of them have gone unnoticed because they brought little, if anything new to the already infectious song. Robin Thicke is not your average performer, however, and while sitting down with BBC Radio One recently he debuted a cover of “I Love It” that is sure to have people talking.

Seated at a piano, yes a piano, Robin Thicke and his band worked …

WATCH: Frank Turner – “All My Life” (Foo Fighters Cover)

Everybody’s got a soft spot for Dave Grohl. Yesterday, BBC Radio 1 posted a video performance Frank Turner did in which he covered the Foo Fighters‘ “All My Life,” and Frank hits a home run. It’s an acoustic performance with his full band, and the harmonies are nailed. This is one of many other Frank Turner live videos we’ve seen in the publicity since Tape Deck Heart came out, but the song selection makes this one stand out a bit.

Frank Turner is currently on a massive world tour in which he has dates left in the United States,  …

Kanye West Reportedly Naming New Album ‘I Am God’

Oh, Kanye West. Will you ever stop being controversial?

The BBC is apparently hungry for news this morning because they cracked the code of writing and found a way to turn a one line story about a rumored baby name into a 500+ word article. Regardless, buried in their latest post on Kanye West and Kim Kardashian is a curious mention that the Chicago-bred rapper will be naming his forthcoming album I Am God. This contradicts reports from February stating the album will be called Rich Black American, and promises to bring Mr. West a lot more media …

UTG INTERVIEW: John D. Boswell (Symphony Of Science)

This feature sets itself apart from our typical arsenal of interviews here at UTG, but as the focus is an incredible project not only comprised of music, but also a fresh aim at teaching the wonders of science, we feel it’s only appropriate that anyone and everyone be aware of John Boswell and his brainchild, Symphony Of Science.

You may have stumbled upon an installment from this viral sensation in the past few years and had its catchy auto-tuned melodies about dinosaurs or the cosmos stuck in your head. If so, you may have wondered (like I did) why …

SLOW NEWS DAY: Will Smith Performs The “Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air” Theme

This weekend has been overly slow as far as news is concerned, but thankfully the gossip hounds at TMZ found a solution.

While making an appearance on the Graham Norton Show to promote Men In Black 3, Will Smith busted out an on-the-spot rendition of the timeless theme to The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air. Don’t worry, we have footage.

While speaking about the show, Smith commented:

“Listen, every country in the world, that is the thing that I am most known for. No matter how big the movies get, it’s just ‘Fresh Prince’ everywhere.”

You can view the …
