James Blake Shares Track “Building It Still” on BBC Radio 1

James Blake has been far from quiet about what’s going on with his new record. On BBC Radio 1, he has shared a handful of new tracks from it, including “200 Press.”

Last night, he shared another one with fans, called “Building It Still.” With every new track, it seems like Blake is moving further from a vocalist and more towards a producer, and I can’t say I hate it. He continues to impress and this song stands on that idea. This song reminisces of recent Burial tracks and has a tinge of melodies that could come from …

James Blake Shares New Track “200 Press”

In the latest installment of his BBC Radio 1 residency, UK crooner James Blake has just shared a brand new track called “200 Press.” When taking over BBC Radio 1 to play a series of singles for his residency, he played the track live on air and announced that it will see a limited-edition run of 200 vinyl pressings (hence the track name). Give it a listen at the 30:52 mark over at BBC’s website.

Blake stopped by BBC Radio 1 earlier this year to debut new material as well (which you can hear here). Last spring, he

CHVRCHES

Watch Chvrches Cover East 17′s “Stay Another Day”

This year saw a flood of new bands riding on their own wave of success. From HAIM to Lorde, artists were blowing up, and Chvrches were at the forefront of that explosion from the beginning. The Scottish synth-pop trio have shown up on late-night TV and venues worldwide throughout the year,  but perhaps my favorite time seeing them pop up in the news is when they’re performing a cover.

Chvrches stopped by BBC Radio 1′s Live Lounge to cover the 1994 hit “Stay Another Day” from Britain’s boy band East 17. Things get slow and dark in their rendition, making …

London Grammar

London Grammar Cover Miley’s “Wrecking Ball”

British indie pop trio, London Grammar, covered Miley Cyrus‘s “Wrecking Ball” at BBC Radio 1′s Live Lounge recently. The video was published to BBC Radio 1′s YouTube feed earlier today. We have the video below.

2013 has been an exceptionally amazing year for the London-based band. Exactly one year ago today, the group posted their hit, “Hey Now,” online which skyrocketed them to fame. The group finished their first U.S. tour this past autumn and have more tour dates planned for 2014. Their debut album, If You Wait, was released on September 9, 2013. The band has …

Miley Cyrus at BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge

Watch Miley Cyrus Cover Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness” on BBC Radio 1

BBC Radio 1‘s Live Lounge is probably my favorite Internet thing ever. Why? Every week they capture amazing performances in great quality. Each cover, acoustic rendition, and studio session fits quite nicely in my bootlegged library. Top notch stuff.

One of the studio’s more recent videos is that of Miley CyrusLana Del Rey cover. “Summertime Sadness” didn’t stick with me when Lana sang it, but I have a warm, cushy soft spot for Miley and this take snuggles right in.

You can watch the video performance below.…

Bombay Bicycle Club To Premiere New Song

On BBC Radio 1 today, the English indie rock band will premiere the first song from the band’s upcoming album, which is due out in 2014. Titled “Carry Me,” the track will be played during Zane Lowe’s radio show.

“Carry Me” is the first release by Bombay Bicycle Club since the band’s 2011 release, A Different Kind of Fix.

Speaking to NME about the band’s upcoming album, guitarist Jamie MacColl said, “People have said contrasting things, that it’s evolution – just continuing on from before – or it’s revolution – completely different, but if we’d have just continued as …

Haim-Paris-Live-Review-2013

Required Listening: Haim – “Wrecking Ball” (Miley Cyrus cover)

If you have not already been converted to a dedicated follower of Haim, prepared to be converted.

Earlier today, buzzworthy alt-pop act Haim appeared on BBC Radio 1. During their time at the iconic station the sisters entered the world famous recording studio and debuted a cover of Miley Cyrus‘ current smash, “Wrecking Ball.” In classic Haim fashion the track has been stripped of its wall-of-sound production and replaced with actual instrumentation performed by real human beings. It’s more beautiful than ever before and just as catchy as ever, so do not hesitate to click through …

You Me At Six Turn Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” Into A Country Song On BBC Radio 1

You Me At Six are the latest to join the long line of talent who has taken to BBC Radio 1 with a cover you would never expect, and the way they made it their own may shock you.

For the last few years You Me At Six have sat on the fringe of the popular pop rock band list, making fans one show and single at a time. Whether or not they’ll ever be as big stateside as we at UTG believe they deserve is debatable, but I doubt anyone will have something negative to say about the performance …

Bastille Covers Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” With An 8 Mile Twist

Today I shopped for groceries. I normally hate doing this, but today it was ok. I think Bastille had something to do with that.

For the majority of the morning and afternoon, I had Bad Blood on repeat. This is simply one of the best albums this year. It’s stunning. Listening to this while pushing around Walmart completely took me away from the scary people crowding each aisle with no regard for other folks trying to do their business. I digress… Bastille is phenomenal.

After coming home and devouring an entire rotisserie chicken, I hopped on the YouTube and found …

UTG Crush: Ellie Goulding Covers Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors”

There is no comparison to hearing a pop cover you never expected and having it instantly make the material feel new once more. It’s a rare treat no one can predict, and recently one such gem was delivered by Ellie Goulding while visiting the BBC.

Appearing in the BBC Radio 1 studio with her band, Ellie Goulding debuted a stirring rendition of Justin Timberlake‘s “Mirrors.” The performace was highlighted by her signature wispy croon and ‘barely there’ instrumentation, with results that quickly received praise from fans worldwide via social networks. You can view video of the appearance …

Bring Me The Horizon 2012

Bring Me The Horizon Perform “Go To Hell, For Heaven’s Sake” At BBC Radio 1′s Big Weekend

Earlier today we brought you an epic Big Weekend performance from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, but even that blistering rendition cannot hold a candle to what Bring Me The Horizon brought to the stage this weekend.

One of the few truly heavy acts to be included in this year’s Big Weekend, Bring Me The Horizon delivered a one-of-a-kind set from atop a massive stage at the annual music festival. Though those of us online cannot enjoy the full set (at least not at this time), the video team for BBC Radio 1 have made footage of “Go To Hell, For …

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis Perform “Can’t Hold Us” Live At BBC Radio 1′s Big Weekend

BBC Radio 1 held its annual Big Weekend festival over the weekend. We were not able to go, but thanks to a series of videos popping up online this morning we are able to partake in the highlights of the event. One performance was so good it simply needed to be shared, and here we are to deliver it to you.

It is impossible for anyone who cares about pop music to have made it to this date, May 26, without recognizing the immense talent of Macklemore and musical cohort, Ryan Lewis. Their hit “Thrift Shop” has been essentially inescapable …
