Set It Off Remove Bassist Austin Kerr Following Allegations Of Misconduct

Another week, another digital allegation made against a promising musician with a legion of underage fans.

Yesterday, May 19, a blog post written by a young woman on Tumblr began circulating online. In it, the self-professed longtime Set It Off fan described multiple instances where bassist Austin Kerr made her, as well as her friends, feel uncomfortable. The reasons for their discomfort were numerous, ranging from suggestive conversations and texts, to physical actions, and to her credit the author of the post did provide some screenshots as ‘proof’ the alleged incidents happen.

This morning, Set It Off turned to their …

UTG INTERVIEW: Jonathan Hischke (Dot Hacker, The Sound of Animals Fighting)

Some bands are known for one musician, and some musicians end up known for only one band. Jonathan Hischke is not one of those musicians, and his current focus, Dot Hacker, is not one of those bands. The rock group, formed by studio musicians best known as members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Gnarls Barkley’s band, recently recorded their latest work, How’s Your Process?, which has been split into two releases: one, (Work), released on July 1, and the other, (Play), is out October 7.

Fresh off a tour playing bass for The Sound Of …

The Summer Set’s Bassist Covers Ryan Adams

It’s sometimes easy to forget that the vocalist in a band isn’t always the only person in the group who can sing (or thinks they can sing anyway), but chances are, there’s a member of the group who also has a decent voice. Some people don’t like the limelight, and prefer to stick with their role in the band. For Stephen Gomez of The Summer Set, this is the case. He’s currently the bassist for the band, but it recently came to light that he has an awesome singing voice. He uploaded his first cover video just a week …

Protest The Hero

Bassist Arif Mirabdolbaghi Leaves Protest The Hero

April Fools’ Day is never really a great day for breaking news, but alas, the news doesn’t stop for the day of pranks.

Back in October, Protest The Hero‘s bassist, Arif Mirabdolbaghi, dropped off the band’s tour at the time to work on an adaptation of a Dostoevsky piece. He hasn’t been on the road with the band since, but now it seems that he will no longer be a part of the group permanently.

According to MetalSucks, Rody Walker announced at one of their performances the other night that Arif will no longer be a part of the …

Former Finch Bassist Sentenced To 15 Months In Prison

Back in September, we were one of the first to notice that former Finch bassist Derek Doherty (pictured at far-right) admitted he was running a mortgage audit scam. Back on October 17, UTG had learned, Derek was sentenced to 15 months in prison for his crimes.

From the Department of Justice:

DEREK DOHERTY was sentenced to 15 months in prison and ordered to pay $98,835 restitution involving a scheme to defraud clients by taking advance fees for loan audits that he never performed.

According to court documents, between April and August 2010, Doherty created Home Safe Financial, a

Paz Lenchatin

Pixies Hire New Bassist, Expand World Tour

Pixies have announced the addition of their newest bassist with Paz Lenchantin entering the fold. Lenchantin has played with A Perfect Circle and Zwan in the past and becomes Pixies’ third bassist, but first not named Kim.

Lenchantin replaces the recently departed Kim Shattuck, who replaced original bassist Kim Deal. Deal left the band earlier this year and has been touring with The Breeders ever since.

The band has also debuted a new music video for the track “Another Toe in the Ocean,” which you can view after the jump, along with their full slate of 2014 tour dates.

Protest The Hero’s Bassist Drops Off Upcoming Tour

Protest The Hero are embarking on a tour to support their brand new album, Volition. They had recently found themselves a new drummer, and now they will have to temporarily work with a replacement for their bassist. He released a statement indicating that he will have to drop off the band’s upcoming tour to work on an adaptation of a Dostoevsky piece, titled The Double. He wrote a lengthy and heartfelt message to fans about having to drop off, and you can see what he had to say below the jump.

The temporary replacement will be a long …

We The Kings

We The Kings’ Bassist Has Malignant Brain Tumor

Charles Trippy is the bass player of the pop outfit known as We The Kings. Yesterday he announced on his YouTube channel that he has a malignant brain tumor. I don’t know how to spell the exact classification of what he has, but in a nutshell it’s a tumor that is technically cancer, but is not something that will spread to other parts of his body. While the news itself is terrifying, it’s great to hear that it’s not something that will spread. You can watch the video where he makes the announcement by taking a look below the …

65daysofstatic, Caspian, And TWIABP To Tour This November

The World Is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid To Die have hopped on quite a few tours lately – Finch, Brand New, and The Front Bottoms come to mind. Now they’ll hop on Caspian’s first band without their recently deceased bassist, both supporting UK headliners 65daysofstatic.

For some reason, TWIABP will not be on the Canadian dates (which is odd, since they were on the Canadian dates of the Front Bottoms tour, so it’s obviously not a passport reason). To check out the tour dates, stick around after the jump.

I finished school with

Former Finch Bassist Admits To Running A Mortgage Audit Scam

Temecula, California, 2002. Five young men in a band called Finch release What It Is To Burn to critical acclaim. Fast forward to St. Louis in 2013, and one of those men has long since been out of the band and is now admitting that he ran a mortgage audit scam. According to St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Derek Thomas Doherty (pictured in the far right of the picture), former bassist for Finch and the only original member no longer in the band, would phone call strangers, use television and mail ads to get business for his mortgage audit business. He …

Caspian’s Bassist, Chris Friedrich, Is Dead

Caspian’s bass player, Chris Friedrich, died Sunday afternoon. The band posted a heartfelt message on Facebook earlier today, and our hearts are with them. What this means for the future of the band is unknown at this point in time; they have one gig on their schedule this month, which is a benefit for one of Chris’ friends who has lung cancer. That will be at the Engine Room in New Hampshire on August 31. There are still several shows in October; no word yet on who will substitute or what will happen. More sadly than the band, the world …

Former Eighteen Visions Bassist Mick Morris Passes Away

Under The Gun is saddened to learn today that former Eighteen Visions bass player Mick Morris passed away in his sleep Sunday (June 2) from a pre-existing heart condition. He was 35.

A circulation of tweets from Morris’ family and friends have made their way around the internet and confirmed our thoughts initially. No other details have been provided regarding where he was at the time. Morris also was the bass player for famed metal outfit Bleeding Through.

He ended up tweeting a post just hours before he died, which mentioned his excitement for this year’s Rockstar Mayhem run. Mick …
