REVIEW: Death Cab For Cutie – ‘Kintsugi’

Artist: Death Cab For Cutie
Title: Kintsugi
Label: Atlantic Records
Genre: Indie

Since forming in 1997, Death Cab For Cutie had never named a record until after it was finished, at which point they would all pitch ideas to one another and decide on a title together. This was the norm for over 15 years and 7 albums, until last summer, when bassist Nick Harmer ran across a tag so painstakingly applicable that it immediately stuck.

“The album’s called Kintsugi,” Harmer revealed to Rolling Stone this past January. “It’s a Japanese style of art where they take fractured, broken …

Is Charlie Puth’s “Marvin Gaye” Pop Music’s Next Smash Hit?

Atlantic Records took the music industry by surprise in 2014 with the signing, and later complete radio domination, of Meghan Trainor. Her throwback sound, coupled with timely pop culture references, made songs like “All About That Bass” inescapable pop hits. Just how long her career will last is anyone’s guess, but it should go without saying at this point that Atlantic has leveraged her unique style quite well up to this point.

Today, Atlantic Records is hoping to find similar success with the introduction of Charlie Puth, a young male vocalist whose new single just so …

Since the departure of longtime guitarist/producer Chris Walla, Death Cab For Cutie have been keeping preoccupied in terms of continuing what they had all started almost two decades ago. The band has recently announced the release of their newest record, Kintsugi, which will be serving as the start of a new DCFC era. Slated for a March 31 release date via Atlantic, the upcoming record will be the direct followup to Codes And Keys from 2011.

Below you will find three new tracks entitled “Black Sun,” “The Ghost Of Beverly Drive,” and “No Room In Frame,” which the band …

Death Cab For Cutie Unveil New Album, ‘Kintsugi’

Now a three-piece since the departure of former guitarist and producer, Chris Walla, Death Cab For Cutie have remained unwavering in their attempts to continually express their love for music and share it with their supporters. Produced by Rich Costey (Sigur Ros, Frank Turner, TV On The Radio) and due out on March 31 via Atlantic Records, DCFC will be releasing Kintsugi, an eleven-track album which translates to, in the words of bassist Nick Harmer, “a Japanese style of art where they take fractured, broken ceramics and put them back together with very obvious, real gold. It’s making the …

Coldplay Release New Single “Miracles”

Everyone’s favorite adult contemporary radio act Coldplay have released a new track called “Miracles.” The song is taken from the soundtrack to the film Unbroken, which is due out in stores December 15 via Atlantic Records.

“Miracles” sounds like your typical Coldplay song – ringing acoustic guitars, piano, a slightly uplifting snap track to keep the beat, and Chris Martin’s easily distinguishable voice take control of the fold here. If you like Coldplay, you’ll be happy with this one.

Martin also recently confirmed that the band is working on a new record, which may or may not be the …

Decide How You Want Coldplay’s New Music Video For “Ink” To Play Out

With about 300 available outcomes for Coldplay‘s new interactive music video for their song, “Ink,” viewers can decide the different paths taken by the main character during his quest for a lost lover. Each selection a viewer makes changes the scenario’s outcome, but ultimately results in a conclusion that coincides with the song’s disheartening sentiments.

Directed by Los Angeles agency, Blind, with the help of a media company called Interlude, the music video features a stunningly animated storyline that accentuates the magic brought about by the heartbreaking track’s mystique.

“Ink” is taken from Coldplay’s most recent full-length album, Ghost

Charli XCX Releases Yet Another Punchy Single With “Breaking Up”

It’s almost criminal that Charli XCX‘s sophomore album, Sucker, is dropping in December (for now). Old Charli made sense in cooler months, slick and moody alt-pop that had unfortunate timing in coinciding with Lorde’s rise. This sophomore album has taken a hard left into sun-drenched pop of blissful youth, steering determinedly into the unexpected success of “Boom Clap.” I’m working on a comparison to Avril Lavigne’s shift from Under My Skin to The Best Damn Thing, but it needs some work. They both even have hearts!

Much like past singles “Break the Rules,” “London

Charli XCX Pushes Back ‘Sucker,’ Shares New Album Art

Following a steady slew of good news from Charli XCX, we have a bit of a downer: the release of her sophomore album Sucker has been pushed back from October 21 to December 16 in the US. The album won’t see light in Europe until next year, with January 26 set for the UK/Europe drop date.

The singer took to Twitter to explain the delay, citing the better-than-expected success of “Boom Clap” as being a major reason. She assured fans that “nothing’s WRONG the albums DONE” and that she just wants to make sure she “can launch the album …

Charli XCX Wants To “Break The Rules” And Put Out This New Album, ‘Sucker’

Many ages ago, in a time before “Boom Clap” and “Fancy” appeared against the radio horizon, Charli XCX released a candystriped single called “Superlove.” It was, presumably, a precursor to a second album. News of that second album was a long time coming, though. We got a few cool covers, and then, well, Iggy and The Fault In Our Stars swept us all away.

Now, though, we have word of that album. It’s called Sucker, and it’s out on October 21 via Neon Gold/Atlantic. This news is ushered in with a second, obviously-timed single called “Break …

Lupe Fiasco Discusses Label Frustrations and Ponders Retirement In New Interview

Lupe Fiasco has taken an odd turn over the last couple of years. For a short time, he was the music industry’s golden goose, but when his motivations for creating music became more message-based and political many turned their backs. I still dig Lupe, and I know many of you do too. Unfortunately, his label may soon cause us to lose one of the greatest voices urban music has ever encountered.

Speaking with Angie Martinez in a new interview, Fiasco opened up about problems with his label while discussing plans for his next album. He said, “[I want to] just …
