Ben Howard Directs His Own Beautiful Video For “I Forget Where We Were”

Ben Howard released his second full-length record, I Forget Where We Were, just last month, with plenty of time to shoot to the top of several music lovers’ ‘best of’ lists for 2014 – some of ours here at UTG included.

For the title track’s video, Howard decided to get behind the camera and try his hand at a bit of directing, a choice that seems to be unanimously agreed upon as a wise one. The entire album explores some of the most poignant and affecting lyricism of the year, and the visuals for “I Forget Where We Were” …

REVIEW: PVRIS – ‘White Noise’

Artist: PVRIS
Album: White Noise
Genre: Alternative
Label: Rise Records

Fleeting: that moment when a new artist steals your heart. You’re not asked nicely if you want your emotions thrown into a record and tossed around like a load of laundry; you’re not given a ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ when your spirit is lifted from the ground and sent into a world you previously didn’t know — induced by a series of songs so powerful that it can give you the shakes or shivers…it can send tears down your cheeks. It doesn’t ask for an invitation. No, when a life-changing …

forever came calling

REVIEW: Forever Came Calling – ‘What Matters Most…’

Artist: Forever Came Calling
Album: What Matters Most…
Genre: Pop Rock, Pop-Punk
Label: Pure Noise Records

Forever Came Calling‘s sophomore effort, What Matters Most, is a blistering and dynamic effort of pure emotion — a testimony delivered by a band that deserves to be the next biggest act in pop-punk.

The record could easily be categorized as a form of lost art, a beginning-to-end piece of balanced work that fails to lose momentum or vigor throughout its entire duration. It’s the type of record bands in the scene were producing years ago. It’s not laced with singles and …

The American Scene Release First Single From ‘Haze’

A few days ago The American Scene announced their new album, Haze, due out September 9 via Pure Noise Records. Today we have been treated with the first single from the record, in the form of a music video for the killer track “Royal Blue.”

“Royal Blue” expands on the band’s abilities with a heightened groove, and even tighter musicianship. Try not to dance around during the chorus. Go ahead, I dare you. The video shows the band playing in black and white, accompanied by cityscapes.

Speaking to Alternative Press on the record, guitarist Jeff Wright had this to …

The American Scene Will Release ‘Haze’ On September 9

The American Scene return to release their new LP, Haze, September 9 through Pure Noise Records. My most anticipated for 2014 now has an official release date.

The band released their sophomore LP, Safe For Now, back in late 2012 through Pure Noise Records to much acclaim. With a high appreciation for Pedro The Lion, Safe For Now is a sonically diverse album, filled with striking vocals, fighting guitars, and a groove heavy rhythm section.

Pure Noise Records has released two teasers for the new album, both featuring clips of a new track. The album appears to be …

S. Carey

Stream S. Carey’s Gorgeous New LP, ‘Range of Light’

S. Carey’s Range of Light has been on my iPod for the past few weeks now, and I am more than happy for the rest of the world to share in its beauty with me. In what is my favorite release from the year thus far, Range of Light is an incredible journey that demands your attention, and your escapist thoughts.

Led by Bon Iver drummer Sean Carey, Range of Light is a nine track adventure through the wonders and rewards of the natural world we inhabit. Featuring Carey’s swooning vocals, exceptional ear for melody, as well as a range …

Matthew Leimkuehler Album of the Year

Matthew Leimkuehler’s ‘Best of 2013′ In Music

2013 was a year full of insurmountable twists and turns with each new record release. One of the best years in recent memory, music fans world-wide rejoiced over incredible releases amongst all genres in the industry. As the year comes to an end, it has been overwhelmingly difficult to narrow down a list of simply 10 LPs and 5 EPs that made a lasting impact on my life; there were so many substantial and complete records delivered throughout the year.

I found myself latching to records I never thought I’d give two listens (Twenty One Pilots — Vessel), I …

WATCH: Frightened Rabbit – “Holy”

One of the best records of the year gets another video added to its repertoire. I am referring to Frightened Rabbit’s fantastic Pedestrian Verse, of course. This time around it’s “Holy,” a personal favorite from the record (who am I kidding, they are all personal favorites, but, “Holy” is truly wonderful).

The video follows an office worker as she grudgingly sets aside administrative responsibilities and takes to nature with the guise of Frightened Rabbit. Imploring many different emotive tones, the video presents a view of nature and society that is up for discussion. To check out the video, along …

Pentimento Release Self-Titled Album For Free; Explain Issues With Physical Release

We have been hyping the release of Pentimento’s self-titled album for some time, but like you we were very perplexed by the lack of pre-orders and normal promotional activities. Turns out, the New York rock act wanted to take a more natural release route, but issues with their former label Panic Records caused everything announced back in September to fall apart in the weeks leading up to this point. In an attempt to combat the situation without letting fans down Pentimento have released their album for free through their official website. Those interested in picking up a copy can do …

Under The Gun Review

UTG’s Best Of 2011: Music

2011 is coming to a close and as such, it is time to announce who we think delivered the best entertainment of the year.

This year has been huge, both for entertainment and Under The Gun, so cutting things down to a simple top 10 list proved damn near impossible. To combat this, we decided to let each member of our staff, if they desired, create a list of their favorite albums, Eps, single, and the like. You can view those lists after the jump.

The following lists are only the beginning of UTG’s 2011 celebration. Stay tuned for our …
