So how fantastic were those Opening Ceremonies last night?

I’m still replaying some of the performances in my head after watching both the live stream and the primetime cut. There were some fantastic musical pieces, all orchestrated and assembled by Danny Boyle and his team of 15,000 volunteers.

One of my favorite songs was the one played whilst the final flame-bearers made their way to the incredible cool Olympic Torch. The song is called “Caliban’s Dream” and we discussed it a bit last night. For those still unaware, the vocalist featured is Alex Trimble, frontman of Two Door Cinema …

VIDEO: Frank Turner – “I Still Believe” (Olympic Opening Ceremony)

Frank Turner surprised us today with a pre-opening opening in London, England. Asked by the big event’s director to perform, Frank obliged with a loud rousing rendition of “I Still Believe.”

We promised you video of the performance, and we’ve come through. The quality isn’t tops, but it will do. Turner’s 3 song set took place before the actual Opening Ceremony, so it wasn’t televised here in the states this evening. Therefore, until BBC 1 or Frank’s people get ahold of some quality video, we’re stuck with some YouTube screen rips.

Two Door Cinema Club vocalist Alex Trimble performs during Olympic Opening Ceremony

Earlier today, we found out that Frank Turner was asked to play the Olympic Opening Ceremony by ceremony director Danny Boyle himself. Not an hour ago, those of us watching the event live heard a beautiful voice serenading those final few carrying the flame to the Olympic Torch. We’ve now learned that the voice was provided by Alex Trimble, lead vocalist of Two Door Cinema Club.

The song was “Caliban’s Dream” by Underworld and written by Rick Smith and it served as one of the final portions of the night’s proceedings. Alex, like Frank Turner, percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie, …
