UTG PHOTOS: Flume & The Chainsmokers (4/14/14)

Under The Gun sent photographer, Kellie Gannon, to Highline Ballroom in New York City to photograph MTV Presents: Artists to Watch featuring The Chainsmokers and Flume on April 14, 2014.

If by now the phrase “LET ME TAKE A SELFIE!” isn’t stuck in your brain on repeat for no apparent reason, let me accidentally-on-purpose ingrain it in there just one more time. On a beautiful Monday spring evening in the city, Flume graced the stage at Highline Ballroom, with support from our friends in The Chainsmokers.

This show was part of the MTV Presents: Artists to Watch Live

Jay Mohr

UTG INTERVIEW: Jay Mohr On Stand-Up, George Carlin, And His “Hotel California”

“If anyone thinks my show was ‘pretty good,’ then I’ve completely failed.”

It’s hard to edit down an interview when the person you’re talking to is an incredible interviewer himself. Not only did Jay Mohr devote time to our conversation, but he often turned the table, asking me my opinion on various issues.

Furthermore, it is impossible to define Mohr in a succinct way, given that he’s done so many different things so well. You may recognize him as a stand-up comedian or an actor. You may have seen him on Saturday Night Live or listen to his podcast Mohr

UTG PHOTOS: The Decibel Magazine Tour (4/11/14)

Under The Gun sent photographer, Derek Scancarelli, to Best Buy Theater in New York City to photograph The Decibel Magazine Tour on April 11, 2014.

In 2014, March Madness came in the form of decades of metal. The Decibel Magazine Tour spanned across 21 cities, traveling between Orlando and Seattle before wrapping up in the Northeast.

The tour featured metal legends Carcass, our friends in The Black Dahlia Murder, Canada’s Gorguts, and the youngsters in Noisem.

Check out below the jump to see some photos from the show. If you made it out to see any …

UTG PHOTOS: Break Down The Walls Tour (3/29/14)

Under The Gun’s Head of Photography, Corbin Alvae, stopped over at the Break Down The Walls Tour on March 29 in Royal Oak, MI

Feels like it’s been awhile since I last posted a new photo set, but damn do I have some great things to share. A couple weeks ago I stopped over at one of my home venues called Royal Oak Music Theatre to check out the Break Down The Walls Tour, which featured a good amount of amazing talent.

The tour kicked off with Born Of Osiris, or as some fans refer to them, BOO. The Chicago-based …

UTG PHOTOS: Bayside & Four Year Strong (4/4/14)

Under The Gun sent photographer, Derek Scancarelli, to Best Buy Theater in New York City to photograph The Great American Cult Tour on April 4, 2014.

Bayside just wrapped up the end of their headlining Great American Cult Tour. Along for the ride were Four Year Strong, Daylight (who’ve since changed their name to Superheaven) and Mixtapes. If you didn’t get a chance to make it out to one of the shows, have no fear, because three out of four of them will be on this summer’s Warped Tour. To catch Superheaven, you can see their …

UTG PHOTOS: Tiny Moving Parts (3/25/14)

Under The Gun photographer, Nick Karp, attended a house show on March 25 in Rochester, NY.

In the depths of a basement in the middle of Rochester, NY held a nit-pick community of kids waiting to see a punk show. Maybe it was the awkward jokes in between sets, or the relentless “selfying” with the bands, but you can tell that most of the attendees had a bond and a sense of camaraderie that is far beyond their mutual love of music.

Every local band was given the same amount of attention, and everyone stayed towards the end to watch …

UTG PHOTOS: G-Eazy & Rockie Fresh (3/27/14)

Under The Gun sent photographer, Kellie Gannon, to Irving Plaza in New York City to check out G-Eazy on March 27, 2014.

Having just moved to Brooklyn six short days before shooting G-Eazy at Irving Plaza, I can proudly announce that I am officially a brand-spanking-new New Yorker! I was more than excited to get a New York City show under my belt to compare how different it really was shooting in the Big Apple versus venues in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Toledo, Columbus, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, and any other city I’ve had the opportunity to shoot shows in previously. Typically, …

UTG PHOTOS: The Never Sober Tour (3/25/14)

Under The Gun sent guest photographer, Tyler LaBeau, to The Never Sober Tour at The Crofoot in Pontiac, MI.

The Never Sober Tour was exactly what the name implies. From the second I got out of my car and walked towards the venue, everyone in line was under the influence and ready to party all night. Before I myself made it inside, I saw one girl get taken away by paramedics, and 3 people turned away at the door for being too far under the influence to function properly. So needless to say, I was at a Juicy J show. …

HIM (D SKANK PHOTOGRAPHY)

UTG PHOTOS: HIM & Anathema (3/16/14)

Under The Gun sent photographer, Derek Scancarelli, to Irving Plaza in New York City to photograph HIM and Anathema on March 16, 2014.

On March 14 and 16, HIM and Anathema were able to draw some heavy duty crowds to New York’s Irving Plaza. The audience wasn’t a sea of 16-year-old screaming girls, which was a breath of fresh air compared to many of the shows I attend. That being said, I was overwhelmingly shocked at the level of noise that room was able to create through screaming and cheering alone.

Professional sound systems and acoustics were no match for …

"My Wife Hates Me" Live Podcast Taping

UTG PHOTOS & REVIEW: ‘My Wife Hates Me’ Live Podcast Taping (3/11/14)

“What are you guys watching that sex looks like making sausages?”

On Tuesday, March 11, some of the greatest minds in comedy and radio joined forces at the Comedy Cellar’s Village Underground in New York City. Things got weird. The special event was a live podcast taping of Rich Vos and Bonnie McFarlane’s show My Wife Hates Me. The married couple also shared an occupation, stand-up comedy.

The live taping was produced by fellow comic Robert Kelly for the Riotcast Network. The show was a “live marriage counseling” session of sorts. The moderator (conceivably the couple’s therapist for …

Flogging Molly at Roseland Ballroom

UTG PHOTOS: Flogging Molly (2/27/14)

Under The Gun sent photographer, Derek Scancarelli, to Roseland Ballroom in New York City to photograph Flogging Molly on February 27, 2014.

In 2004, Flogging Molly released Within A Mile Of Home. I was 13 years old and I bought the 12” record at the mall. It was one of my early new vinyl purchases. Shortly after, I purchased their previous record Drunken Lullabies (2002) on a picture disc. A decade has since gone by and I’ve finally had the chance to see the band perform. From what I can remember, many of the band’s tours were sponsored by …

Shaggy at Brooklyn Bowl (D. SKANK PHOTOGRAPHY)

UTG PHOTOS: Shaggy (2/25/14)

Under The Gun sent photographer, Derek Scancarelli, to Brooklyn Bowl in New York to photograph Shaggy on February 25, 2014.

On February 25, Brooklyn Bowl hosted an epic concert to a sold-out crowd. The venue, which has a capacity of 600, has hosted quite a few packed shows. From the Bouncing Souls to Action Bronson, I’ve had a blast every time I’ve been there. This show, in particular was fantastic. Well, if we want to get technical, it was boombastic. Yes, I went there.

Shaggy took stage in Brooklyn to a venue that features a bowling alley and some …
