LIVE REVIEW: Riot Fest Denver (Days 2 & 3)

I was so proud of myself for waking up the morning after my first night at Riot Fest Denver and cranking out my review of ‘Day 1’ that I believed wholeheartedly I would be able to repeat that act the following two days. “I’ll be the first to press ‘post’ out of every journalist there,” I thought. Turns out, I don’t know my body as well as I thought because the rest of my weekend in Denver required far more sleep than expected. For that, I apologize.

Now that the ringing in my ears has subsided and the festival banners …

LIVE REVIEW: Riot Fest Denver (Day 1)

I missed Riot Fest 2013, and to be honest I spent the first six months after it took place kicking myself for having not attended. When the 2014 installment was unveiled, I knew this would be the year I finally made the trek. Chicago was my first choice, but due to some family related issues that came up in August I ultimately settled on booking a flight, hotel, and car for one in order to enjoy Riot Fest from the parking lot of Mile High Stadium in Denver, CO.

My journey began as great adventures do, with a far too …

LIVE REVIEW & PHOTOS: Funny Or Die’s Oddball Comedy Festival (8/22/14)

The Oddball Comedy Festival has made its way around the country this summer and will continue to bring laughter to stand-up fans through the end of September. The tour has been hitting grand-scale theaters as opposed to the usual hole-in-the-wall comedy clubs. Although it takes away the intimacy of a smaller environment, it does manage to boost your intake of comedic celebrities in one sitting.

The tour features both newcomers and legendary comics such as Aziz Ansari, Jim Jefferies, Amy Schumer, Jim Gaffigan, Marc Maron, Whitney Cummings and plenty more. Under The Gun Review was able to catch the Wantagh, …

UTG PHOTOS: Lollapalooza 2014 in Chicago, IL

Under The Gun’s Head of Photography, Corbin Alvae, attended Lollapalooza at Grant Park in Chicago, IL.

I went out to Chicago to attend the infamous 3-day music festival known as Lollapalooza, which takes place at Grant Park in the downtown area. The whole weekend was packed with artists of various genres; everything from electronic, to indie rock, to hip-hop. Chicago is one of my favorite cities to go and photograph in, all because the area is just simply beauty and definitely a place everyone needs to visit.

Kicking off my weekend starting on Friday, I began by getting the feel …

UTG Photos: Rixton (8/3/14)

Under the Gun sent photographer Nick Karp to Irving Plaza on August 3 to check out Rixton.

For some reason I’ve happened to photograph a fair share of pop bands, and not to insult that scene, but I’m usually never enjoying the music. When asked to shoot Rixton at Irving Plaza, I honestly thought it was going to be something along the lines of when I shot Allstar Weekend, The Ready Set, etc, but I was wrong in the most positive way.

Rixton was good. Not to say that the bands mentioned prior aren’t good, but Rixton was …

UTG PHOTOS: Pitchfork Music Festival 2014 (7/18/14)

Under the Gun sent photographer Nina Corcoran to Union Park in Chicago, IL from July 18-20 for Pitchfork Music Festival.

Every year, Pitchfork Music Festival announces its lineup and I let out a little wimper over in Boston from jealousy. The music blog’s annual festival has been going on for ten years now in Chicago, and as such they’re able to curate a small but focused line-up that boasts a lot of great up-and-coming acts as well as bigger indie staples. This year, at long last, I finally caved in and went.

After interviewing the bands playing about their favorite

Under The Gun Review co-owner and editor, Brian Lion, attended the Outside Lands Music & Arts festival in San Francisco, CA from August 8-10.

The 7th annual Outside Lands Music & Arts festival took place this past weekend in the historic Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, CA. Hosting upwards of 180k attendees, Outside Lands provided music and art lovers with a wide array of the world’s largest bands, as well as ridiculously delicious foods, beers, wines and art displays from local and national artists, all in an eco-friendly atmosphere. UTG PHOTOS: From Indian Lakes and The Dear Hunter (8/8/14)

Under The Gun sent photographer Erica Lauren to The Fonda Theatre on August 8, 2014.

From Indian Lakes‘ live performance will leave goosebumps on anyone with a pulse. They put so much heart into their music, and being able to experience that live is a breath of fresh air. They are set to release a brand new album this fall, titled Absent Sounds, and we here at UTG are anxiously awaiting its arrival.

The Dear Hunter‘s set was greeted with a visibly enthusiastic sea of fans, as per usual. Between Casey Crescenzo’s beloved vocals and the …

UTG PHOTOS: Arcade Fire Dazzle The Gorge Amphitheater (8/814)

In what had to be seen to be believed, Arcade Fire performed at the legendary Gorge Amphitheater in George, WA on August 8. The Gorge, which sits near the Columbia River, is one of the premier concert venues in the Pacific Northwest, and what better way to breathe even more life into its structure than to host one of the biggest indie rock bands in the world?

However, Arcade Fire had one requirement for their fans who were in attendance: be dressed to the nines in semi-formal attire, and dance their asses off! Seeing this at The Gorge was interesting …

UTG PHOTOS: Warped Tour Detroit (7/19/14)

Under The Gun’s Head of Photography, Corbin Alvae, attended the Vans Warped Tour on July 19, 2014 in Auburn Hills, MI.

Well, it’s Summer and that only could mean one thing. Actually, it means a lot of things, but one of the most important aspects is one of our favorite tours traveling across the U.S. and Canada. To photograph the Vans Warped Tour this year, I stopped over at one of my favorite places to shoot at, called The Palace of Auburn Hills, where a couple of my recent photo sets were as well (e.g. Demi Lovato, Paramore, and Fall …

UTG PHOTOS: Keep Calm And Chive On, Seattle (Chive Fest, 7/12/14)

Under the Gun sent photographer Xander Deccio to the Seattle Center in Seattle, WA on July 12 for Chive Fest.

I’m going to be brutally honest: I had no clue what The Chive was, and when I heard from a colleague that they were having a music festival at the infamous Seattle Center, I had to check out this website that legions of fans were flocking to to see what the hype was all about; a ‘male-friendly version of BuzzFeed’ as one person put it. However, The Chive was not just another BuzzFeed clone, but in fact something much bigger, …
