UTG PHOTOS: Musink Festival (Day Three, 3/22/15)

Under The Gun sent photographer Erica Lauren to the Orange County Fair & Exposition Center on March 22, 2015 for The MUSINK Tattoo Convention and Music Festival.

Musink 2015 took over Costa Mesa, California this past weekend for their 8th year. Music and tattoo enthusiasts showed up in huge numbers for a weekend of body artwork and live music. The festival entertained fans with tattoo contests, classic cars, and talented artists available to work. With all of the non-musical activities aside, the lineup for Musink held its own for a great weekend of memorable performances.

Sunday’s portion of Musink …

UTG PHOTOS: Echosmith at The Shelter in Detroit, MI (3/7/15)

Under The Gun’s Head of Photography, Corbin Alvae, stopped by The Shelter in Detroit on March 7 to experience Echosmith.

I’m back at it again with another brand new photo set for you all. I made my way over to one of my other favorite hometown venues, called The Shelter, to catch the very talented Echosmith. Going into this event was absolutely perfect, ’cause it’s starting to get warm here finally and that puts me in the best mood ever. After hearing the group’s single all over the radio every day, I knew in my head that this show …

UTG PHOTOS: Doomtree at the Highline Ballroom in NYC (2/17/15)

Under The Gun Review sent photographer, Kellie Gannon, to The Highline Ballroom in New York City to photograph Doomtree on February 17, 2015.

Fans of the Minneapolis-based hip-hop collective Doomtree went absolutely ape-shit back in December upon the announcement that Doomtree would be returning to the stage in early 2015 with new music. Along with this announcement came the release of a new single titled “Gray Duck” which was actually the second single put out from the album. Back in the summer, “.38 Airweight” premiered but it wasn’t until December that the track list, album name, …

UTG PHOTOS: ‘The Juggernaut Tour’ With Periphery, Nothing More & Wovenwar (2/4/15)

Under The Gun’s Head of Photography, Corbin Alvae, stopped at Saint Andrews Hall in Detroit to catch ‘The Juggernaut Tour.’

First show of the year and it feels great to be back! Did some great things throughout January that I was pretty proud of, so I’m glad to get back into the live photo grind again. As many of you may know, if you have read any of my past reviews, I have a tendency to have to deal with the shitty, cold weather before I go shoot an event in my home state of Michigan. First off, I got …

UTG PHOTOS: Into It. Over It., Kevin Devine and Laura Stevenson in Philadelphia, PA (2/7/15)

Under The Gun welcomes new photographer, Ally Newbold, as she attended The Sanctuary in Philadelphia, PA on 2/7/15.

One of my first shows in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was at the First Unitarian Church. Imagine a humid, sweaty basement filled with over 500 people, no barricade and cheap PBR getting tossed among the crowd. When exiting the Church after a show, you walk out covered in other people’s sweat, amongst your own, drenched in booze; the smelliest you’ve been in a hot minute. I went to the First Unitarian Church to see Evan Weiss of Into It. Over It., Kevin Devine and …

UTG PHOTOS: Sleater-Kinney Make Their Triumphant Return (2/8/15)

In 2006, Sleater-Kinney, a well-known indie/alt rock band based out of Olympia, WA called it quits. The band had a huge following, and were one of the pioneers of shaping the roots of indie rock. Maybe most importantly, they never signed to a major label, even though many begged them to do so.

However, the three members stayed busy throughout the years. Carrie Brownstein went on to form the band Wild Flag, and also co-created a little known comedy series on IFC. Corin Tucker went on to collaborate with Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder on the Into The

UTG PHOTOS: Ben Howard in NYC (1/30/15)

Under The Gun sent photographer Kellie Gannon to The Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City to photograph Ben Howard on January 30, 2015.

If you have ever wished for a life-changing concert experience or a show that you wish could just go on and on forever, look no further than Ben Howard. Howard is a fresh-faced, British crooner that can light your soul on fire and has stockpiled an immense amount of talent since his childhood. Ben makes love to his acoustic guitar in the most soothing way; it is essentially an extension of his body. His sound is …

LIVE REVIEW: Circa Survive at Union Transfer in Philadelphia, PA (12/13/14)

There’s always something special about welcoming a band home after a long tour. One would think that this band (and the rest on the bill) would be worn out, deflated, and simply spent after a month and a half of straight touring. Circa Survive are not that band. Well, not that tired and exhausted band. They are, in fact, the band that Philadelphia welcomed home with open arms and strong voices at Union Transfer this past weekend.

Opening the latter half of the tour was Baltimore’s Pianos Become the Teeth, fresh off the release of their third, near-perfect record, …

UTG PHOTOS: Clockwork Indigo – Flatbush Zombies And The Underachievers (12/5/14)

Under The Gun sent photographer Derek Scancarelli to Best Buy Theater in New York City to photograph Clockwork Indigo on December 5, 2014.

In October, Brooklyn hip-hop crews Flatbush Zombies and The Underachievers dropped a collaborative EP entitled Clockwork Indigo.

The New York City stop of the Clockwork Indigo Tour marked the last weekend of a 36-date run of shows around the United States where the groups took stage under their A Clockwork Orange inspired collaboration.

Aside from the Stanley Kubrick themed logos, the other main semblances to the director’s obscure and maniacal styling was the raw energy and …

UTG PHOTOS: Monster Outbreak Rock Tour 2014 (12/6/14)

Under The Gun’s Head of Photography, Corbin Alvae, attended the Monster Outbreak Tour at The Fillmore in Detroit, MI.

With 2014 coming close to an end soon and the big man in the red suit coming to town in a couple weeks, I needed to catch and shoot one more tour before my shooting season ended. When I saw that the Monster Outbreak Tour was making its stop in the D, I knew that I needed to catch this. Thankfully it hasn’t snowed here yet, so going out to this wasn’t a hassle (unlike last year’s winter events I did).…

LIVE REVIEW: Prepare For Hell Tour @ The Sprint Center in Kansas City, MO (11/26/14)

Industrial metal was alive and well on the night before Thanksgiving in Kansas City, MO. Thousands gathered to embrace in the artful lack of contempt and refusal of conformity that is a Slipknot and KoRn show.

Thriving on a mixture of nostalgia and recent tracks — both bands light the arena on fire with their volatile and explosive brands of hard-hitting metal music. Both bands having evolved greatly in their tenure, there is no other way to describe such a setting: the Prepare for Hell Tour is a high-octane, no-bullshit metal show and fans of both acts wouldn’t want it …

UTG PHOTOS: Anberlin’s Final Tour Hits NYC (11/16/14)

Under The Gun sent photographer, Derek Scancarelli, to Irving Plaza in New York City to photograph Anberlin’s Final Tour on November 16, 2014.

Over a decade ago, Anberlin released their first full-length album, Blueprints for the Black Market. In 2014, the band released a studio album entitled Lowborn before they embarked on their final tour ever. On November 26, the band will play their last show with ’68 at the House of Blues in Orlando, FL.

Anberlin took over New York City last weekend, playing two sold-out shows to Irving Plaza. Almost immediately, vocalist Stephen Christian made his way …
