We have spent many hours at UTG HQ hypothesizing about who would make the cut for the upcoming third installment of The Expendables, but not a single member of our 30+ member writing staff saw this one coming. That said, it’s pretty damn cool.
Deadline is reporting that Frasier and Cheers legend Kelsey Grammer is in final talks to join the star-studded cast of next summer’s Expendables 3. The entertainment news and gossip site claims Grammer is stepping into the role of Bonaparte, an ex-mercenary who helps the Expendables in their mission, which is a part originally intended for action star Nicolas Cage. No additional details on the role are available at this time.
Grammer may have made his mark on the small screen as the sensitive Dr. Frasier Crane, but in recent years he has been doing a fine job of transitioning into more tough guy roles. He was praised for his work on the now-cancelled series Boss, and earlier this summer joined the cast of Michael Bay’s Transformers 4: Age Of Extinction. It’s still hard to picture Grammer standing alongside Stallone, but so far we’re trusting Sly with this decision.
The Expendables 3 opens next summer. In addition to Grammer, the film stars Sly Stallone, Jason Statham, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Terry Crews, Antonio Banderas, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren and Wesley Snipes. No word yet on why Nicolas Cage said no.
